As the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association continues its charge to amend the City charter, there are questions about their funding disclosures and potential campaign finance violations.

The Express-News reported on Tuesday that the union had failed to disclosepayments made to the firm Texas Petition Strategies, as is required by state law.

San Antonio's fire union paid the firm more than $500,000 to help gather the necessary number of signatures to include three proposed charter amendments on the November ballot. If enough voters support these changes, San Antonio's municipal government would be significantly impacted.

Three of the union's campaign-finance disclosures were updated on Wednesday to include the half million-dollar payment to Texas Petition Strategies, but the amended filing still wasn't correct.

The union's purported mission is "to increase accountability, transparency and voter access at City Hall, and the support of District 6 City Council representative Greg Brockhouse.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg has called the charter amendment proposals "dangerous." A recently formed opposition PAC aims to educate voters about how these changes could negatively affect the functionality of local government.
