The Texas craft brewing industry has grown almost 1,000 percent in the last 12 years, from 20 breweries in 2005 to 218 today.

At the end of last year, Texas craft breweries were producing more than 1.06 million barrels, or about 149 million bottles of beer.

However, brewers say new restrictions enacted in this year's legislative session are a disadvantage to small operations seeking to market their products in taprooms and brewpubs.

While HB 3287 started out as a regulatory measure, many involved in the craft brewing industry are concerned that the law will discourage investors and instead pressure owners to default to larger beer companies.

How have beer, brewers and breweries impacted Texas culture since arriving in the state nearly two centuries ago?

What factors led to the beer boom in Texas and what's next for the state's craft brewing industry?

Guests:

The Brewing Up Texas exhibit is open from Oct. 21, 2017 to Oct. 28, 2018 at the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures.
